The German board game of the year 1989 is now available for the iPhone and the iPad. Especially on the iPad the digital implementation of the game looks fantastic. It can be played individually, or up to 4 players may compete against each other on one device.

The game displays a cafe with lots of empty tables. Each table is reserved for a certain nationality. However, they may also be shared – so perhaps a German and an American will find themselves on the same table.

Before the start of the game the players will receive square little tiles that represent guests. The guests now have to be placed at the tables. Not only the nationality has to be taken into consideration, but also the gender balance. Male and female guests have to be seated alternately. If a man is seated first, a women has to follow before the next man may be placed at the table again.

Often times the guests, that the player received, are not right for the tables on the board and have to be sold for unpopular minus points. Either way, Lady Luck goes back and forth quite a bit before the game finally comes to an end. Once all tables are filled the players will tally up their points.

Conclusion: the app completely captures all the fun that the board game offered. It may be played individually or 4 players may look for opportunities to place the guests in the right spot.
